The mystery of the mountains in the dark

Are you still not tired after a day out in the snow? Then night-time skiing or tobogganing is a magical way to enjoy the evenings during your winter break in Hochpustertal. Twice a week, you can go night skiing, or take part in toboggan races, on slopes with artificial lighting. It’s great fun for all ages, for families, couples or groups.

Listen up: the Haunold will be in the spotlight every Tuesday and Friday night! The ski slope and toboggan run will be open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Please note: unlike the ski slope with its artificial lighting, the toboggan run is not lit up, so you will need to bring a head torch.

From the Hotel Leitlhof to our local mountain, the Haunold

If you are prepared to leave your warm nest at the Leitlhof after dark in order to enjoy a special experience, then you really should take part in the night-time skiing and tobogganing. And guests at the Leitlhof enjoy an extra bonus, because they have a splendid view of the Haunold right here from the hotel. So getting to the night skiing venue by the light of the moon takes no more than a few minutes.

Of course, the slopes have to be made ready for the evening. Immediately after the day-time skiing is over, snowmobiles come out to tidy up the slopes, completing their task in just two hours! Then everything is ready for the creatures of the night who want to have a little more fun on the ski-run. Twice a week, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Haunold is all lit up, providing wonderful fun for skiers!

Night-time sledging

In the same way, you can spend two splendid evenings on the Haunold whizzing down the toboggan run. The more athletic can climb up the path to the “launch pad” (about 1.5 hours walk); but those who are already tired after an active day can be carried up on the 4-seater chairlift. But before you launch your toboggan, you can enjoy an excellent meal at the Gigante Baranci mountain restaurant at the top of the chair lift. Then, re-energised by your meal and full of excitement, you can retrieve your toboggan and your head torch and enjoy a wonderful downhill ride. The toboggan run is 3 km long and has a particular appeal, especially in moonlight.

Finally, after your night-time skiing or sledging, you can return to the delightful warmth and friendly atmosphere of the Hotel Leitlhof. We just need a happy ending to this perfect day: a liqueur sipped in front of a crackling fire or a relaxing session in the sauna.

Would you like a wonderful break in the Dolomites? The staff at the Leitlhof look forward to welcoming you to the splendid mountains of South Tyrol.
